When the price falls far enough that mining stops paying, miners switch machines off and the hash rate's 30-day average falls under its 60-day: "capitulation", in Charles Edwards' hash ribbons. The day the 30-day average moves back over is the "recovery", read by many as the end of the selling and the sign of a bottom. Here each recovery, and each capitulation's first day, is a buy of Bitcoin at that day's close; each day reads the hash rate up to the day before, the last one out.

A luck test (t) says how far a result sits from zero, in units of its own noise: about 2 is rarely luck for one test, but many tests at once need more, which is what the first cut is for.
The hash rate of a day is published the day after it, so each close reads the readings up to the day before; both averages take every day of their window and nothing after. Each recovery and each capitulation's first day is a buy at that day's close, set against all of Bitcoin's other days over the same hold, each calendar day weighing in by how many holds cover it, so a case counts as the holds that share no day; the days in capitulation are tested the same way as one band. With 6 tests on the turns, a result needs a luck test of 3.0 or more and both halves of the history on its side.
The averages (30 and 60 days, Edwards' own) and the holds were set before any number here was read; his version also waits for the price's own 10-day average to turn up, which this page leaves out. Moves are Bitcoin's own price, before trading costs.
